Setting The Stage Of A Road To Gold Event

Live events are morphing into themed based production experiences used to motivate the attendees and leave a lasting impression of the experience. Recently we were asked to develop an event based around one such theme. Ideas developed from initial meetings with a local marketing company and the client with the focus to energize the upcoming sales rally.

The venue was a former manufacturing site turned into sports complex with meeting space. Our event was scheduled to be in one of the large areas with open ceiling, support columns, concrete floor and white walls which presented both challenges and unique opportunities to meet the project goals.

The solution was to use a mix of technology, lighting, graphical elements and stage backdrop which fit the theme.
Two 10K HD projectors with long throw lens were used to shoot from the back of the space onto 16 foot screens which flanked the stage for presentation and video content playback. Two 50 inch LED displays were place in front of the stage as confidence monitors. A live event production switcher was placed at the tech table and video was distributed throughout the space using a 3G-SDI backbone.

Lighting effects and scene creation was a key component which transformed the space and made the lasting impression desired by the client. Front of house stage components included varied truss sections with white covers and LED PAR lights. Since the concept required a road to weave through the space leading to the stage surrounded by tables it was decided to rig a truss cloud above the main area. The truss cloud included thirteen moving LED fixtures, two ellipsoidal's with 50 degree lens for stage wash, strobes, UV lights and two 5,000 lumen projectors for static graphic projection onto surrounding wall surfaces.

Audio modeling software was used to test and configure our line array speakers and sub cabinets. The truss cloud, speaker line arrays and stage backdrop were rigged to structure using chain hoists.

The event content was created to go with the theme and to motivated the attendees. Additional production sequences included a new marketing slogan revealed with t-shirts using the UV lights, new product releases and a tornado simulation with client participation as characters on the Road to Gold.
